EXPENSIVE SHOPPING!
Xu Jia Hui - the 5th avenue of the wealthy suburb in
Shanghai. Five huge department store malls - two of which are
really like US malls, the other three are much more like big, huge,
gigantic stores. One "store" on each corner - yes, there are five
corners!!
Weird though as there are 25 counters of the same thing in each area. So we went to pick up an MP3 player - yeah, I REALLY need something to take the edge off of the bus rides - especially the ones to Zha Bei at 6:30 in the morning. Some light music to just keep me nice and relaxed!
First we ate, just like a US mall eating corner except there were tons more variations on Chinese, Japanese and Korean - YES, still BK, KFC and ... We then went deeper into the "store" to where the MP3, etc. counters were. Long story short - we bought a nice 4 gig player for 630 Yuan (about $84) - the iPods were up in the 1,200 range same with the new Stone Zen from Creative. I already have over 3.3 gigs on the player, used it twice for over 1 hour each time and discussed the purchase in class (yes, as you all know, I use most of my life in class!!!).
One final comment, I still have no idea where they all get the money to buy everything in the stores!!! The stuff is EXPENSIVE - US standards, no doubt!!! AND I really don't feel comfortable paying the prices!! Name Brand so maybe that's why! Anyone from America would definitely feel right at home if they loved to shop!
