Shopping at the Fabric Market

What a beautiful day!

I took the chance to go shopping this morning in town (Jia Ding town) and found lots of excellent little pictures in my walk afterwards too!  Quite a nice little place, this town (I don't know - half a mil, a million, 600k?  I can't get any real statistics on the town itself so  far).  We have a freeway straight from downtown here (OK, there are three separate elevated freeways you must take - but the last one is a toll way so not free at all!).  I take the HuJia bus downtown for 9 yuan - still 7.5 yuan to the dollar - or the University bus to Zha Bei campus, which is free.  The subway from either spot is almost the same, as they are three stops apart.  They are still working hard on the elevated train but that won't be through this year.

Yesterday after lunch, I headed downtown on the HuJia bus and then walked around People's Square.  One part of the square is where I met Pat and George (profiled earier here).  Below is a wonderful area of the park.  See what a clear day it was yesterday!!  The tall flying saucer is the Raddison - tons of skyscrapers everywhere, as you would imagine - yes, the Pearl Tower and soon to be finished tallest building in China (also most expensive per square foot - can't let Beijing have all the fun!).

I then caught a taxi down to the South Bund Soft-Spinning Material Market - lots of Cashmere and Wool tailors here.  So I commissioned a suit (Steve, one of the other teachers, told me I HAD to get a suit here) - 500 yuan, long heavy overcoat - 500 yuan and 3 shirts 75 yuan each.  Then went to a second tailor - there are THREE floors of shops and almost 100 on a floor - not all are tailors, but all related to fabric!  There I decided on a heavy sport coat, you see they don't have heat in most buildings around here.  So I will need more than just my short sleeved shirts that I came over with (and two suits)!!  I was overweight when I came (don't tell NWA) and had very, very few books so I just have to buy!  Luckily I have a few kwai left (slang for renminbi -people's money 0r yuan).  A very nice trip - most will be ready Wednesday, which is CRUCIAL as the temps were 43.3 degrees F this morning for my first skate since I got that cold thingy!!  Anyway,  the timestamp is a little off as I was playing with the settings trying to learn how to list only the last 10 posts, etc.  So needed to UNDO one that wouldn't let me post a picture.

I have TONS of pictures - if you wish to see others, just let me know!!! grinning wildly!
