Relaxing in our new lobby area!

Sure is nice to have a place to gather - and gather we did last night after finals.  So I am going a little slower this morning!  We talked until after 1:30 am and resolved a few things - National Ballet at 3:15 pm on Thanksgiving and then off to the Marriott dinner - though $50, one can't get real turkeys many places in Shanghai - let alone China!

The Final test in English was interesting - we have a Chinese invigilator as well as ourselves (now this is a totally new word on me, one of the Australians said so too, though she at least knew what it meant - she just never used it until she came to SILC).  The Chinese teacher is the Chief Supervisor and the Foreign teacher is the second Supervisor (we may not actually be supervising our own classes at all).  A very interesting experience.  All tests for a subject are taken at the same time and all the tests for a class are standardized - even if they are clearly not taught the same.

I have no issues with standardized tests or another "invigilator" or proctor as we would call the person.  All you do is administer the test and watch for cheating so you are totally a proctor.  Clearly one of the wonderful parts of having another teacher there is you can get a break if you need one!  Also there is another set of eyes to watch the students.

Anyway - a new experience in my 22nd year of teaching!  I always love those new experiences!

Tomorrow another new experience - presenting "The Economics of Mobile Marketing."  Tom Lanis (some of you will remember Tom from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma) and I are co-authoring the presentation.  Very interesting to try to coordinate a presentation in two weeks.  I was invited to speak on Oct. 31 so I am very pleased with how the PowerPoint presentation has developed.  Especially as Tom has had enrollment to deal with (as Head of the Business Administration department) and I have had final exams!

Yes, I am VERY pleased with the presentation so far and I must get back to it now!
