A new term is ready

Grades are in and the tests are ready to take to Zha Bei. OK - that was on Sunday and now it is Tuesday at 9:30 am!  Yesterday I was able to talk with everyone about my concerns that I would be late for class at the Yan Chang campus for my 8 am Thursday class - late at least in that I would have no time to get set up - PPT, etc. before the students arrived.

OK - to make a long story short (A favorite saying of my cousin Knox's - Knox is actually my second cousin, once removed and I STILL owe him a trip up in Algonquin National Park, Ontario, CANOEING!! - Sorry Knox!)...

After chatting with everyone, we moved my Yan Chang classes on Thursday to Monday, which is TOTALLY AWESOME (to coin a phrase)!!!  So I can revise my website now - andrewparkes.com - I had already begun to set up the section of class here in Jia Ding separately from the other two in Zha Bei (they met at different times during the week).  Coordinating the three classes will be SOOOO much simpler!

There are 73 in the Jia Ding class (75 seats so get a seat while they're hot!  Paul actually said that last semester some had to bring in seats from another room, but he had 77).  In Zha Bei (Yan Chang), I have the same students as last semester (except a few that flunked, I imagine!),  So there are 45 in each class.

I have class in Jia Ding on Monday at 10 am to 11:40 (with a ten minute break - bells let us know when), trek over to my office - from the 5th floor of the teaching building to the 5th floor of the Wen Hui Building (Wen Hui has an elevator), then down to the van just off the Wen Hui building.  We SILC van down to Zha Bei (Yan Chang street) in about 35 minutes and I have about a half hour before class starts.  Plenty of time to eat lunch and set up for class.  Classes last from 1:05 to 4:45.  Then if I can make it to the university bus, it leaves at 5 for Bao Shan and then Jia Ding - about an hour and a quarter.  If not, then I am allowed to take a taxi and will be reimbursed.  (I believe this is better than taking a taxi every Thursday morning at 6:30 to get to my 8 am class - sometimes I expect that I will make the bus).

Wednesday is similar except that class in Jia Ding starts at 8 am, I take the 10 am SILC van to Zha Bei and teach from 12:10 to 3:50.  Catching the 4:45 university bus which bypasses Bao Shan to Jia Ding and is much nicer as it only takes 35 mins.

So that's my schedule this semester.  Now I need to get the first problem set (Price Indices) and syllabus photocopied and ready for class on Monday!

OH - I also now know that I can plan a Wednesday, Jan 25 night flight or Thursday, Jan. 26 morning flight to the US for skiing.  I get three weeks, taxes will have to be organized, mail from August, etc. etc.  but that's totaly cool!
