The First Week is over!

Just back from an enjoyable chat with some Chinese students from Shanghai University. They want to learn English and so we (Tom and I) make them take us to a restaurant to eat. We're learning new meals and new combinations of old ones. Very nice!  (Tom is my next door neighbor and has been here in Shanghai for three years, two with SILC - also in Korea teaching English, Thailand and taught English in NYC, where he's from - yes, Brooklyn ... a wee bit of an accent.  Nothing like one of the teachers who's from Scotland - yikes, I sometimes have to absorb what he says, but then I am sure that some of the Aussies and others would say the same about my Canadian/American speech!!!

The students are great!  The class here is 52 students (Jia Ding) and we don't have the internet, unfortunately, in class.  HOWEVER, MUCH to my surprise and delight!!!  We do in BOTH classrooms in Zha Bei!  Most of the students in Zha Bei had me last term, so we know each other fairly well.  Amazingly enough, the Jia Ding students are quick to pick things up and have easily fallen into my rhythm.  Especially amazing as I am doing mostly boring definitions at the moment!

HOWEVER, I am taking advantage of the fact that they WILL read the textbook so I will just skim through the PPT (they don't call it PowerPoint here, just PPT!).  The first problem set is due Monday (yes, those of you who have had me in class know that I start fast and move through the fluff chapter (1st) in 5 minutes.  AH, a new word for my students - fluff!  Explain THAT one - I did!

Price indices were not in this Mishkin book but that didn't stop me (see my website if you are interested).  NEXT!
