FOG - can't see anything at 7 am!

Weird to have the weather mirror my feelings!  As I recover from a bout of travel sickness (another draft is waiting to be posted about that!  It will show up earlier.), I feel a bit foggy and out of sorts!  Laughing!

As the sun begins to rise, it is almost surreal as the beet red, then golden sun becomes more yellow, rising above the fog and into the mostly clear sky.  Just a few high wisps of clouds above but quite a chill in the air.

I know it doesn't compare to those of you in Grand Junction, etc. (freezing for many days straight!!!), but the humidity does go right through one!  It is about 4.2 degrees, that's 39.6 degrees F.  Above freezing and yet with the fog ... Probably the lowest temperature we have had here yet!

So let me explain: In the classrooms here in Jia Ding, there is one stand up heater in the classroom - 75 seats in the room (a big huge long room), so the heat is BLASTING down from the front to everyone in the room.  I BAKE, in my long underwear and suit (or at least shirt and tie, I often take off my cashmere-wool coat as it is just too hot!).

However, when I jump in the SILC van and head down to the Yan Chang campus, there is NO and I repeat NO heat in the classrooms there!!!  Yes, and these classrooms can sit all 45 of my students sitting every other seat for a test.  THEY ARE HUGE ROOMS!  Oh, Chinese also LOVE to keep the windows open, no matter what the weather - REALLY!  Rain most times gets them closed but hot, humid or freezing cold - nope!  So one can go from a breezy, cold room to a hot and steamy room, especially in the winter and summer, regularly!  No wonder we get sick!

Alas, I still love it here - these types of things one finds no matter where you go.  EVERYONE has their own desires - my friend Mike (picture earlier) always keeps the window open!  Yes, we had houses together in Ames, Iowa back during the college and railroad days!  Growing up on a dairy farm will do that to you, no doubt!

Well, I can see about a kilometer now so I had better get to grading, etc.  Problem set #2 was due yesterday so I now have about 120 quizzes AND problem sets to grade ... but I have until Monday!
