HAPPY NEW YEAR! (But it is still the old year?!)
Ah, here we are dealin' ...
Dealin' with the hangovers, dealin' with the New Year's Resolutions, dealin' with the upcoming work day tomorrow ...
However, you (in the US) are still getting ready to celebrate.
WOW - YOU'RE a WHOLE YEAR BEHIND!!!!
Weird to look at it from this side!
So we went to Firestone instead of Utopia! Weird but interesting and LOUD - ohhhh, myyyyy goodness!
Utopia is this really cool (most of the time) relatively small and intimate jazz bar. Quite nice to kick back and chat, get a bit rowdy at times but mostly just be able to talk.
Firestone is a Techno/KTV type bar - singers, an MC (or whatever), a guy playing a Moog/Synthesizer type of electric organ (poorly) and a DJ. The singers weren't too bad, except that the Chinese are deaf and must make sure that everyone else is too! SERIOUSLY! They crank up the volume when they teach the students so that almost everyone in the whole building can hear - which therefore means that everyone is competing. I have yet to use a microphone, except when I have a blind or hard of hearing person, then it is a microphone for them only. Of course what else am I saying? That I have a big mouth (loud voice) - yep, that I do know! Ah well ... at least I know ...
The KTV bars are the most popular - where Chinese go to do Kareoke, as we would call it. Actually, most of the singers weren't bad, which has not usually been my experience. OK, so I rarely go to a KTV bar, so how would I know! Well, the students have done a few plays and most of them are not so practiced. Anyway, techno music ranks up there with gangsta rap for me. Most of the time I would rather not. So I am just not a good evaluator on these matters! Again, at least I know so and ledt others enjoy for themselves! (grinning - pc enough?)
Back to enjoying that hangover ...
