PARTLY CLOUDY TOMORROW!!! YEAH!
Whew - I LOVE THE POWDER, but it will be nice to see the mountains again! Laughing!
As we say, "FACE SHOTS" - another day of snow coming up and hitting us in the face as we make our turns.
THAT'S what it is all about - for us POWDER HOUNDS!!! Telemark or Fixed Heel, we all love the snow untracked and flying up to hit us in the face! Actually, today might have been a day for snorkels. YES - the snorkel you use to swim and see fish etc. in the ocean! If the snow is deep and it keeps hitting you in the mouth, you can't BREATHE!!! Who wants to stop when the snow is so perfect! Laughing!
The canyon didn't open until after 10 and so we didn't get up the mountain until after 11!!! I am SOOO glad that I brought my book to read! Finished a few chapters and then had another awesome powder day - two totally amazing days in a row (actually, all eight have been ... SICK ... as the locals and young kids say! wild grin - yes, SICK!).
OK - 154" base AFTER we have skied all day! (6 pm) - another 5" fell during the day to give Alta a total of 450 inches of snow for the year so far!!
On the evening of Sunday, January 27th, when I arrived in SLC, there was 8" of fresh powder falling and the base was 348.5" - so over 100" of snow has fallen just in the past eight days that I have been here!! Oh my goodness! In water terms, that's almost 7" of water! Click to see the Alta snow history.
Here is a picture of the Devil's Castle hike. Under the Castle the sun doesn't shine! So the snow is FINE!

We headed on a little farther and then out onto the Apron area ...

The picture above is entitled, "How about HERE?" Fresh powder Saturday - Friday was the powder day but a day later there's still plenty of Freshies at Alta!! As Alf always said, to get to the good stuff, everyone needs to hike!
