金融机构与市场

I know that some of you didn't believe me when I was back in America, but The Title of the course DOES mean Financial Institutions and Markets!  (The class I am teaching here at Shanghai University).  Here are the characters and their meaning:

金 融   jīn róng n. - finance; banking
机 构   jī gòu n. - mechanism - organization; organ - internal structure of an organization

         yǔ    "and"  ... a correction

市 场   shì chǎng  p.w. - market; bazaar

So while you might not believe me all of the time (grinning, when I am poking fun at what the Chinese characters are especially), I REALLY AM teaching about markets in the current term and the markets REALLY ARE providing wonderful examples of HOW markets can perform!!!

ps. Check out the Nationalization of Northern Rock- a mortgage lender in the United Kingdom which provided a GREAT example of what a run on a bank was like for my students LAST term!  (Under February 18, 2008)
