Thai Restaurant, usual honking horns, hot in March already!
Mei Mei's was fine for an American style breakfast - latte, omelet, toast, coffee but didn't open until 9 am. I had already walked half the town, had baozi, etc. (taken pictures), by then! Still the best place in town for travel directions in Banna, in English, that I have found (which isn't saying much as I just got here!). Many foreigners do come though, so one can chat with them to get up to date info, for example yesterday from a couple: the Wild Elephant Park has chained up animals, a "show" and the classic Chinese tour megaphone groups are quite prevalent. Also had quite a wonderful discussion with an American couple.
Just had an awesome Pad Thai (spelt Phak Thai) the the Thai Restaurant (yes, that's its name, in English letters outside). There's English on the menu, the prices are cheap and the food's great! The Phak Thai, soup and a carrot juice was 13 yuan (that's less than $2 even after the appreciation!). OH, they also add ice, which is very nice given that the temps have shot up - it is already hot here in Jinghong! I would say close to 30 degrees Celsius, it was over 28 when I landed yesterday at 5:35 pm. Oh, it rained nicely this morning so yes, it is a wee bit humid as well.
The honking of horns will get me out of town faster than anything! I will decide whether to bike down south first or head west ... no worries, I am off to the Botanical Center this afternoon.
