Heading for 90 degrees F. Today! Pictures later.
Rented a mountain bike after breakfast - 30 yuan, expensive I thought for a one day rental but it rides very nicely (don't really need the mountain part for here). Breakfast - western style at Mei Mei's to discuss a few things about classes and eat a wonderful omelet! Oh yeah, there's the morning Yunnan coffee that just hits the spot for 7 yuan! Less that a good cup of coffee in the U.S.! Oh, those Hong Niu (Red Bull) that you buy for 5.6 to 7+ yuan in Shanghai, they only cost 3.3 yuan here in Xishuang Banna!!! Laughing! Talk about reverse prices - almost everything is MUCH cheaper here!
I road out of town going south (there are only 800,000 people in Xishuang Banna so Jinghong MUST be a town - that is, less than 1 million - laughing!). There is a temple to the south - OK, temple, I thought old temple like in Tibet or Inner Mongolia or other places I have been. NOPE, BRAND SPANKING NEW - not a scratch on it yet! The area for parking is hectares! As you approach there are security, but no one else - it is 11:45 am and NO-BODY in sight. In fact, there are hardly any tourist stalls open!
Why? Hmmm, speculation only ... perhaps the 120 yuan price tag?!!? Locals, of course, go in for free (no not Chinese tourists, I mean locals). Not even close to interested. At least Dali had very tall towers to look at! Very interesting spectacle!
Returned to the hotel as the heat/sun required sunscreen and the camera required new batteries!
