Chocolate!!! - Dates on food products
I had a craving for chocolate as I was finishing my shopping at the Century Mart last night - WHAT could I find???
NOPE, no organic chocolate - no Green & Black (could/would the ordinary Chinese person BUY G&B - Nope).
But SURE ENOUGH - there's the M&Ms, Snickers Bars and Skittles (I know, not chocolate). We went up to Everest Base Camp last June pricing the snickers bars. How expensive would they get?!? We even had one cake made of snickers bars!!! Do they cater to Americans perhaps?!!?
The Chinese DO love their candy - and chocolate - but usually in massive quantities - not just one bar, in the grocery store. I just wanted to satisfy a one time craving that happens rarely! grinning ... REALLY!
Now, the little "Quick" shops one finds EVERYWHERE (I don't know HOW they make any money as there are a TON of them and very, very few products!). They have single bars, etc. but how old are they?!?
Which brings me to another topic: often the Chinese date things as to when they were produced ... then YOU decided whether the product is too old or not!! Rather than as in America, when the producer thinks they are "old."
For exampe: M&Ms - 20071016 and also on this package is 20081014! So both dates! The Beijing Olympics Snickers Bar? 20080104 and 20090102! Interesting!
