Wednesday - Thursday Work and Midterm Exams
My schedule this third term is mostly Wednesday and Thursday and I have over 3.5 hours of travel in those two days as well. Therefore, when the internet was down on Monday-Tuesday, blogging took a back seat to making sure that the website was current for my students.
Also some of the students cannot receive the PPT from the website due to the size of the PPT or the speed of the student's connection. So I try to email the PPT or download to their flash drive. Time is the highest cost factor here!
THE MIDTERM EXAM IS TODAY!!!
So Sunday and Monday was spent readying the exam and the students (as well as yesterday - the students in Zha Bei and Jia Ding are on different schedules for the first two hours - however all of the students have two hours today). I needed to make up different versions - the students here like to cooperate MUCH more than in the U.S.! In the U.S. wandering eyes are the issue - here cooperation!
Furthermore, since there is a time difference between Zha Bei and here - I have to make different versions for them too! Laughing - no worries, just takes a bit more preparation and less time to blog, etc.
Luckily no real earth breaking news - Apple reported good Macintosh sales, the profit driver today, but iPhone users are disconnecting from their preferred phone connector lowering estimates. UBS has a write down - but many on Wall Street believe that the write downs are mostly over ??? hmmm ... interesting! When do the checks arrive? Must be getting close - the IRS tax checks! We'll see how much benefit there is to the economy soon! Also Amazon.com reported higher profits but lowered forecasts - similar stories and at least profits are still coming in, one could say.
HOWEVER, Bond holders on the LBO's that go bankrupt are only expected to get 10 cents on the dollar rather than the historical average of 42 cents!!! YIKES! Wonder how that will affect high yield borrowing in the future! See the article here at Bloomberg.com, the article is an exclusive so only available on their website. Off to test!
