Criss-crossing Iowa

After leaving friends in the Des Moines River Valley (in between Boone and Ogden), I traveled to Marshalltown and then on to Woodward.  This morning I leave Woodward for Cedar Rapids, this site of the worst of the flooding of 2008!  Iowa was hit VERY hard and here are two pictures as I left Woodward.

The Des Moines River Valley looking north from highway 210.  The mud represents how full the valley was with water!

The old railroad bridge shown here will become a bike path in the near future.  Looking south again shos the height of the water.  Most of the bridges were built for the floods, yet the water came up to the bottom of many as many friends' pictures showed.
