At 5:20 last night, I was walking home from Da Ning Shopping Mall (think Super Target or Wall Mart plus fifteen places to eat, tons of mall shops and this is mostly an outdoor shopping mall).  As I was getting ready to walk across the street, the crossing guard smiled so I took his picture. 

 

That whistle is a very important part of his job, they do keep the cyclists from crossing the road in front of cars - yes, cyclists (and pedestrians) WILL walk across during rush hour IN FRONT of cars, expecting them to stop!!  The variety of cycles is somewhat evident here but more on that another time.

Now at 5:40 AM, the sunrise!

 

Oops, the illegal satelite dishes that are so prevalent in Shanghai are shown next door - shhh!  But if we pan down a little we lose the effect of the sunrise (camera focuses differently) ...

           

Seriously, that wasn't but two minutes later!  Yet, I took the picture below first and wanted to show the transition.  The pictures may be a little grainy because they have been resized so that they are not 1.2 Megabytes each!  Therefore, you can download them (or receive them by subscription in email) without taking forever!

          

Nice little park/entryway.  I believe there are 20 buildings (some smaller as you can see - across from me they are only 7 stories or so - but some three bedrooms there).  My building is 18 floors, of which there are 10 buildings.  There are four apartments on a floor so something like 1,000 apartments in our little complex.  MOST have a couple and one kid or a couple and mother/father - i.e. 3,000 or so people in the complex.  Coffee time!!!
