The Mid Autumn Festival

The Mid Autumn Festival (中秋節, zhōng qiū jié) is Sunday so SILC had our "getting to know each other" party last night (Friday) and gave us our moon cakes.  For the first time in PRC history (People's Republic of China), Monday is a holiday for government workers (luckily my maid will come anyway - she wants the income and ... grin).

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar.
This is the ideal time, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, to celebrate the abundance of the summer's harvest. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.  (Sourced from Wikipedia this time.)

Here are the two sets of Mooncakes I received.  They are very beautifully presented!

Here is what Mooncakes look like.  Happy 中秋節!!!
