In Shanghai, MANY things are interesting but street vendors ...

Watching them fly, flinging their cloths over their booty - attempting to be sold - when the "street police" all of a sudden appear!!  I was walking back from the Blue Frog tonight, when the "police" showed up!

One is amazed - looking at little earings, scarves, DVDs, etc. ... and then brushed quickly out of the way as the cloth flops twice and covers.    A quick heft and the pile is into a big bag, onto a scooter, or being hauled off with the crowd!

Quite amazing really - and these police have a dump truck in tow, right there!!  ALL those potential sales are almost scooped into the dumper!!  But the wily sales people are too quick on this day (or perhaps the police aren't really interested in being really nasty on this Friday evening).  I didn't see anything go into the dumper when *I* was there.

A quick walk around the corner and you would have no idea that they are all watching for the dreaded "street police"!!!  Again pestered by the hawkers, buy mine, I have a deal for YOU! ...

Talk about free market, with a HUGE risk!!  These folks are out there every day, just waiting for the police but attempting to make a few bucks "yuan" along the way!  Yan Chang Lu - the street I live on - has a HUGE and vibrant group of vendors EVERY NIGHT (that the police aren't around anyway).  Just about anything can be bought.
