Mutianyu - The Great Wall - Pictures
Lost this one once - let's try it again!
You can see how cold it is - we ALWAYS wear layers in China but I also have a heavy coat on! However, this is morning! Yes, notice the reconstruction. We cannot just go anywhere but we believe the government wants our money rather than anything else. The watchtower here is one of the first after climbing a ton of stairs to get to the ridges of the mountains.
Then if you turn and look to the East, the view below unfolds. See the watchtowers along the ridge in the distance! WILD!
Below you can see looking north the Great Wall is crazy up and down climbing. The next watchtower is one we took some pictures from viewing the surrounding area. LOTS OF STAIRS and exercise!
Below you can see right next to my head starts the HUGE stairway!!! AMAZINGLY tough - hard exercise, I cannot imagine being stationed here as a soldier to defend the country, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT HEAT!!!
Then we look to the West and the mountains are EVEN Cragier!! See the tower up on top of the peak!! Whew!
I met two guys on the way up in the van - a Brazilian and Venezuelan. We chatted during the four hours of hiking about everything and took pictures of each other, etc. AWESOME first day in Beijing District (yes, this is technically in the Beijing district!).
