Walking towards Da Gu Lu and the bakery you can get the feel here I think of Shanghai in the Jingan to Puxi area:

 
The park at Da Gu Lu is very popular - especially on beautiful, though cold, days (about 2 degrees Celsius).

 
A walk east through People's Square brings one to the #1 subway line and the Nanjing Road pedestrian area - lots of lights!!
