28 Moves and Midterm Written!
Always tough for me has been trying to find the time to practice Tai Ji Quan (or Tai Chi in America)!
Sometimes one just has to DO stuff!! So I stay at school all day Fridays now because Tai Ji class is at 6:00 pm in Jia Ding. This is the same teacher that I really like from last year. THEN I have to travel UP to Jia Ding on Sunday to take class again at 6:00 pm and then come home on the 8 pm Hu Jia Zhuang Xian (Shanghai-Jia Ding Special Bus Line). The thing is that this is the LAST bus - it WILL NOT WAIT or STOP or even care!!! Laughing - every night so far (have done the class now 3 times), the bus has left and someone has been BEATING on the door, "LET ME IN!!! STOP!!" Actually, I can't hear them and they are speaking in Chinese but I can imagine!~
So anyway, yesturday we had a nice Economics Department meeting - about DOING RESEARCH - the most important thing at EVERY university *I* have taught at - do NOT let anyone tell you otherwise. It is ALSO true here in China!!! At least every school I have been at in Shanghai, anyway!
The other thing was a letter from a student complaining about profs reading PowerPoint, sitting there in class, not explaining enough, the tests do not apply to the class or life or ... VERY INTERESTING.
Midterms were this week and next. I have mine the first class of the 6th week - that's in a 10 week term, so MID-term! Mine is at 6:00 pm at night. HELLO - THREE CLASSES - 8 am, 10 am and 2:10 pm - China where "Co-operation" is at a penultimate!!! Yeah - so *I* get to take the last UNIVERSITY bus home THAT night!!! I know you don't feel for me but I am NOT letting the students "co-operate" on the exams, if *I* can help it!!! 4 versions of the exam, assigned seats, if they do NOT have the version *I* gave them, they receive a "0" and I have ALREADY told them so!!! grinning!!! YES, I KNOW many of YOU have been in classes of mine so you KNOW!
OK - the University bus LEAVES at 9 pm, gets ME home at 10:30 pm. The Hu Jia Special Line STOPS running on weekdays at 7 pm!! No way to take the Hu Jia line for 9 yuan ($1.28), so I have to take the FREE bus but get home VERY LATE! (A taxi costs about 100 yuan - or about $14.00, so I TRY to avoid it except when necessary!)
Anyway, here are the 28 moves we will do in Tai Ji Quan. I have already finished the "8 moves," which is a separate class. The "28 Move" class adds on (mostly) to the 8 move class. I have found that the 85 Move class is MUCH more involved (go figure, eh?! grinning).
