Through the Parks and Streets
Visited some of Shanghai today: The subways are getting finishing touches (map below):
and the beauty of the Park at Da Gu Road always attracts the newly weds (they are married in an earlier ceremony, then rent dress and tux for pictures and party, often renting a car, party room, etc. too (there were two sets of couples here):
then around the corner to get Bread and DVDs and down the street ... they sure are painting up the town these days!
... down this street to the left and to right next to the Shanghai Art Gallery (good cai baozi - vegie steamed buns), but first I took a right here ... yes, to stop and smell the flowers ... (yes, my students know that one!!)...
walking a little further down into the park before turning left, I had to take another picture here ...
while eating the cai bao, I wandered through the People's Square and Park down to East Nanjing Road
those are not Chinese people on the poster with the shirt open, etc.
I was wandering down Nanjing Pedestrian Street with about a million other people to pick up Moon Cakes (after all, it IS mid-Autumn Festival time - which is why we get 8 days instead of 7 for holidays!). Then I met up with a colleague-friend, Giles, at the Foreign Language Bookstore to have Fish and Chips at the Bund Brewery, and a beer, of course! Quite in view of the Pearl Tower in beautiful blue skies and sunlight!
The Bund is under MAJOR construction for the Expo next year and so clear pictures (without wires) are not available. We just stepped out of the Brewery and I took the picture.
Giles was heading on for humus, bread and DVDs himself so I stopped at the People's Square Station to take a picture of the fleshed out subway system as it will be for the beginning of the year. Tuesday I am planning on going out the #9 line to the water town of Qi Bao. Notice the #2 line (green) will go from right (Pu Dong Airport) to left (Hong Qiao Airport). The purple #11 line on the upper left is the one that goes to Jia Ding - we have seen test cars running on it already. A wonderfully relaxing walk through the centre (as Giles texted me) of Shanghai city.
