Sipadan Diving Today!
We have had two of the best days diving ... period!! The fish are plentiful and the coral mostly wonderful.
A weird occurrence is the occasional explosion from "fisherman" trying to get fish, I am told. So some of the coral in places is totally dead from the dynamite!!! Sigh ... We are a long ways away but underwater it sounds very close anyway! Yes, it is illegal but there are tons of fisherman around everywhere so it is a hard law to enforce. Another somewhat odd thing is to be diving on islands totally controlled by the military. We need to get permission first, which is no issue for the company, just a different procedure than I have seen before.
The islands are so beautiful that we would normally pay to just visit the islands. Instead the island walkabouts are a sideline to our awesome diving experiences. The first day was Stingray day (over 25 sighted - 17 on one dive alone), yesterday was moray eel day with too many seen to count! Laughing ...
